Silence is Permission, Silence is Consent, and Silence is Acceptance!

Dear Members of MPBC,

This email was sent to me and as requested, I’m publishing it (with minor changes) on the blog along with all the previously published posts, as there seems to be no change in Greg’s callous attitude towards the church and God’s Word.

Silence is Permission, Silence is Consent, and Silence is Acceptance!

Those present will remember that Greg’s Sunday sermon on the 6th of November, was on ‘Joy’ from his “Character Check” Series – Greg spoke about pretty much everything around the topic of joy, except what is biblical! – Nothing new there. He looked up the dictionary and concluded that ‘Joy’ (including Christian Joy) and Happiness are similar. To his credit, he mentioned early on in his sermon that a person can experience joy, even when they are not happy and that ‘joy’, is not emotional, but he then went on to contradict himself later, when he stated that anyone can experience joy and it is mainly a disposition of a “personality type” – in that, some people can always be joyous while not others, regardless of their position with God. While this may be true from worldly perspective, it is wrong from a biblical perspective.

What Greg could not explain, from lack of knowledge or lack of preparation, is that, when the bible talks about joy, it is NOT describing an emotional state nor it is describing a “personality type” but rather a ‘state of being’; a ‘state of being’ that is grounded ONLY in the hope of salvation, from having shed the burden of sin (once a person has repented and has turned away from his or her sins.) This ‘state of being’ is not dependent on one’s emotions or situation in life. So, true Joy is exclusive to Christians – a point that Greg failed to understand, and therefore, failed to teach the church.

Happiness on the other hand, is a feeling that anyone can experience, regardless of their religious convictions or relationship with God. The permanent smile that you see on the Dalai Lama’s face is not the outcome of the same joy that a true Christian experiences. The fact that Greg is unable to differentiate between Christian Joy and ‘worldly bliss’ may be because he has not experience true Christian joy himself and so has no internal reference to speak from.

Christian Joy persists even in the absence of happiness and even in the most trying of circumstances. To understand this state, let us examine James 1:2, a verse that almost every evangelical preacher would have expounded on, when preaching on joy, but not Greg (quite revealing, isn’t it?). Prosperity Gospel preachers hate this verse, and you’ll see why.

James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds

It is humanly impossible to be happy when we are facing trials, but we can still be filled with godly joy, because true joy is not dependent on our earthly circumstances, but rather on the promise of eternity in Heaven with Christ.

Greg used ancient irrelevant myth based Egyptian and Greek medicine coupled with debunked psychology to explain “personality types”; according to Greg, we are apparently born with one of four “Personality Types” and we must just accept it and NEVER to try to change ourselves or others. (What if the need to change others, was part of someone’s personality?)

Greg’s false theology of “I was born this way, I am who I am, and don’t you dare tell me otherwise” is at the heart of the left wing liberal agenda. This worldview has crept into (liberal) churches and has given rise to the growing number of comprised church leaders who will no longer speak up against homosexuality, same sex marriages, divorces, adultery, De Facto relationships, or abortion. These compromised preachers will however frequently speak about “not judging” and “accepting” everyone. They accept every lewd human sinfulness but reject the truths of God’s Word. These worldviews and sinfulness of the world that we live in, is contradictory to what the bible teaches us about godly living. We are meant to oppose these sinful behaviours and teach our children why God hates such lifestyles.

This (Greg’s sermon) is a ‘Leftie Speech’ disguised as a “sermon” – but what can we expect from a wolf in sheep’s clothing?

Christians (if you are a real one) were never meant to be united with the world – and all these socials (sinful) issues (homosexuality, same sex marriages, divorces, adultery, De Facto relationships, and abortion) are the ways of the world. Consider the following verse:

James 4:4 You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

But Greg loves the world, and the world loves him; what does the bible say about people like him:

John 15:19 If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.

To make his point Greg preached that every person broadly falls into one of the four personality types or temperaments.

These are:

Sanguine – (associated with air) lively, sociable, carefree, talkative, and pleasure-seeking.

Phlegmatic – (associated with water) – inward and private, thoughtful, reasonable, calm, patient, caring, and tolerant.

Choleric – (associated with fire) – excitable, impulsive, and restless, with reserves of aggression, egocentric and extroverted

Melancholic – (associated with the element of earth) – appear serious, introverted, cautious or even suspicious

“The Greek physician Hippocrates (c. 460 – c. 370 BC) incorporated the four temperaments into his medical theories as part of the ancient medical concept of humorism, that four bodily fluids affect human personality traits and behaviors.”  – Wiki

“At the heart of this typology is ancient medical concept — humorism. Humors here refer to bodily fluids that are present within one’s body. Different people have different proportions of these fluids; the predominance of one fluid defines one’s temperament and psychological type. Here are the four temperaments and their predominant humors (bodily fluids):”

  • Sanguine: blood
  • Phlegmatic: phlegm
  • Choleric: yellow bile
  • Melancholic: black bile

http://psychologia.co/four-temperaments/

“Modern medicine rejects this typology” – there is absolutely no basis for personalities types being dependent on dominant bodily fluids! Maybe Greg’s but definitely not for the rest of us.

If you want to read more about the basis of this typology and how unscientific it is, look up the following link:

http://www.greekmedicine.net/b_p/Four_Humors.html

I wonder what may have been going on in the minds of the doctors present in church that morning. A preacher talking about bodily fluids affecting personality traits? What Greg preached is similar to saying that we should wear garlic cloves around our neck and that will ward the vampires off.

What’s he going to tell us next? Snake oil is good for hair regrowth? Or that we need to give 26% of our earning as tithe to the church? Justify adultery? Tell us that Mary was 13 years old when she gave birth to Christ? Or that, one should watch porn, so as to “not objectify women” – and actually show porn in the church? Wait a minute, he did preach all that, except for the snake oil bit, I mean, once your hair is gone, it’s gone and even Greg knows that!

The other major points of his sermon were.

Be Yourself, Yosef!

Greg has preached this theme ‘Be Yourself’ several times before. There is absolutely nothing in the bible that teaches this false doctrine  – so in desperation, Greg does what any false teacher with a hidden agenda would do – he takes a verse (Psalm 139:13) completely out of context and misapplies it and makes it say what he desperately wants it to say.

Psalm 139:13 For You formed my inward parts; you wove me in my mother’s womb.

According to Greg, this verse is telling us, “Be yourself and don’t let anyone change you because God made us a certain way and He does not want us to change.” Greg went on to say that we must never imitate anyone because everyone is unique and must be themselves.

For you information Greg, Psalm 139:13 is not talking about personality traits or that “we must not change”, if anything, it tells us that life begins in the mother’s womb and that is why each unborn baby is precious in God’s eyes – because God formed each human being and even “unwanted” babies are precious in His eyes and they are not accident to be aborted.

The bible also teaches the opposite of what Greg preached – we are to imitate Christian leaders, while they imitate Christ! Paul teaches this to the Corinthian and the Thessalonians churches.

1 Corinthians 11:1 You are to imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.

1 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me.

1 Thessalonians 1:6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord when you welcomed the message with the joy of the Holy Spirit, in spite of your great suffering.

2 Thessalonians 3:9 Not that we lack this right, but we wanted to offer ourselves as an example for you to imitate.

In 1 Peter, it teaches that Pastors are to be godly examples for the church – “not out of greed, but out of eagerness.”

1 Peter 5:3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.

How would it be if we imitated Greg? Go on long holidays and bore the church with talks about the holiday and show pictures that not many want to see; instead of using the 30 minutes of the week that he is paid for to preach God’s Word, he uses it up to show his holiday pictures?

Does the bible tell us not to change? Does it teach us to “be ourselves?” Below are the words of Christ.

Luke 9:23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

We are to deny ourselves daily and follow (imitate) Christ! What Greg preached is completely the opposite of what the Word of God teaches. When we are Saved, we are to shed all of our old sinful ways, (Change completely) and become a new creature. The homosexual can no longer remain in a homosexual relationship or lifestyle, the thief no longer steal, the liar must stop lying, the one who swears – must stop swearing, the adulterer can no longer commit adultery, the one living in an unmarried relationship can no longer continue in it and the pastor preaching false theology – must no longer do so, the list goes on – we are to stop every sinful ways and the Holy Spirit enables this change in us – i.e. if our conversion is real. It is meant to be a complete transformation that is visible to the whole world. It does not mean that a person no longer sins, but it means that he or she will no longer willingly live in sin. The Christian walk is not meant to be easy and that’s why the bible teaches that it is the narrow path which leads to salvation, but the path to hell and destruction is broad and easy to take. One would never get that impression from (just) listening to Greg.

Matthew 10:38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

Too Busy! Greg says, Relax!

Grey said that we should not be busy, as it is a “Joy Killer.” He used the following part of Psalm 46:10 to make his case. “Be still and know that I am God” – Greg interpreted this part of the verse to say, “don’t be busy, because God does not like it and it’s a joy killer.”

In making a mockery busyness, Greg was portraying his low opinion of people who hard work; at least we know now why his sermons are so ill-prepared and why he frequently goes on holidays.

But here’s the whole verse:

Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

The verse in not talking about “not being busy!” The context of the word “still” in the verse does not mean “staying idle” or “relaxing.” The verse is telling us not to be anxious – or in other words, “do not fret” for God is in control.

The bible teaches that we must work hard. Of course, there is a time for rest, but God honours those who work hard!

Proverbs 14:23 In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.

2 Timothy 2:6 It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops.

Romans 12:11-12 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

There are several other verse where the bible commends hard word and staying busy; what does the bible say about laziness!

Proverbs 6:10-12 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. A worthless person, a wicked man, goes about with crooked speech,

Greg concluded by equivocating on the word “joy” to mean happiness and commended a cheerful demeanour. If you wanted to know, which emotional state the bible praises, you’ll be shocked that it’s the opposite of what Greg preaches.

Ecclesiastes 7:3-4

3 Sorrow is better than laughter, because the heart is made better through trouble.

4 For the wise person thinks carefully when in mourning, but fools focus their thoughts on pleasure.

Our so called “church leaders” will never speak up against Greg’s false teaching – either because of their ignorance of the bible or lack of conviction or lack of courage; some of them may feel justified that they question Greg “behind closed doors” and so have done their bit – but that’s just easy escapism so they don’t have to deal with the difficulty of confronting an ungodly preacher. Greg’s last sermon shows us that the church leaders are not doing enough to stop Greg from preaching false theology. Whatever be their reasons, they are condemned along with Greg.

All that Greg preached last Sunday is hollow deceptive philosophy and it is the opposite of what God’s Word teaches.

Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

Silence is Permission, Silence is Consent, and Silence is Acceptance!

Greg, you do not have the permission of the church to preach your psychobabble which is based on ungodly nonsense, we do not consent, we do not accept, we will not remain silent!

If you think this article (from the email) is not based on truth, discuss it in your cell-groups or send it to someone who knows the bible well and see what they have to say, or better still, study God’s Word and see for yourselves if it teaches what Greg preaches.

If you approach a church leader to talk about this article and they brush it aside by telling you “we don’t know who wrote it and so won’t entertain it,” ask them do they care more about the identity of the person who wrote the email than the correcting a false teacher who is sending people to hell? What kind of church leaders does that make them?

If you ask your cell group leader and she is unwilling to even consider it, then you know, who is a disciple of Greg, rather than of Christ.

I hope the Holy Spirit wakes you up and give you the courage to stop Greg from leading many down the path of destruction.

Ephesians 5:11 “Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead expose them”

  1. You’ve missed one of the verses that Greg used to tell us why we should not be busy – Ecclesiastes 10:15. He picked the Good News Translation, and I later found out why he did this. No other translation says the same thing as the Good News Translation.

Ecclesiastes 10:15 Good News Translation (GNT)
15 Only someone too stupid to find his way home would wear himself out with work.

In comparison, here’s the New International Version And the ESV.

    Ecclesiastes 10:15-17 (NIV)
15 The toil of fools wearies them; they do not know the way to town.

Greg interpreted the verse (from the Good News Translation) to mean, only a fool who does not know where he lives or does not want to go home, works hard – or is busy! I had never come across this (Greg’s) meaning before, so I had to look it up. Below are the interpretations of bible commentators.

10:15 The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.

The fool is characterized by incompetent behavior.
The foolish pretends he knows the way to the city, when in fact, he does not. If he does not know the way to the city, he definitely does not know what is to come. The following Scriptures are showing the way to everlasting life.
Matthew 11:28-30: “Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” “For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.”
A Proverb for ignorance with regard to the most ordinary matters, which extends even to spiritual realities. If a fool can’t find a town, how could he possible locate God?”

    http://www.biblestudytools.com/commentaries/gills-exposition-of-the-bible/ecclesiastes-10-15.html

    “Ecclesiastes 10:15
The labour of the foolish wearieth everyone of them
    The labour of fools, both in speaking and doing, weary those who have any concern with them, and themselves likewise, since all their labour is vain and fruitless; because he knoweth not how to go to the city;
to any city, the road to which is usually broad, and plain and easy to be found, and yet cannot be found by the foolish man; showing, that he that talks of abstruse things, things too high and wonderful for him, which he affects to know, must needs be a stranger to them, since things the most easy to be understood he is ignorant of, and wearies himself to find; or he does not know how to behave himself in a city, among citizens, in a civil and polite manner. The Targum is,
“he learns not to go to the city, where wise men dwell, to learn instruction from it.”
Some interpret it of the city of Jerusalem, where were the temple, sanhedrim, synagogues, schools but it may be better applied to the heavenly city, the New Jerusalem, which fools or wicked men know not the way unto, nor do they seek after it; see ( Psalms 107:7 ) ( Matthew 7:13 Matthew 7:14 ) ; so Alshech interprets it of heaven.”

Greg, if you are reading this, looking that verse up took me less than 5 minutes? Do you even prepare for your sermons?

  2. ”Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Be still and know that I am God? Yet last Sunday was anything but STILL! For those who had to endure a wriggles kid band, rather than a sermon, it was more like “be still because I am lazy” and just love holidays away from preaching, and when i do preach, i hate to properly prepare, as this requires diligence and time ” as the devil wants me busy”. as per the Voice, the message, good news and other perverse translations ”only someone too stupid to find his way home, would wear himself out with work” Ecc 10:15

  3. Hi Paul,

Here is an email correspondence with one of the attendees of Moonee Ponds Baptist Church. Some in Moonee Ponds Baptist church possibly have similar views about the email that was sent and publishing this correspondence may help answer their questions. I’ve replaced the person’s name with ‘J’, followed by my reply.

    Thanks,
    Pasta

    ——–

I don’t read crap from gutless people who don’t sign things. You’re no friend of mine.
    – J

    ——–
Thank you ‘J’. Regardless of whether I sign my name or not, the content of the email is still from God’s word; it is unfortunate that you think so low of the Bible (to call it “Crap”) and you still call yourself a Christian.

If I had used my real name, have you considered what the outcome would be?

Do you really think Greg will start preaching God’s Word, or that the Deacons will silence any dissenting voices and Greg continues in his liberal left wing speeches?

In the context of the church, it is more important to bring about godly correction and find a way of doing that.

If Greg was someone who is willing to listen, then I would have gladly gone and spoken to him; I suggest you try telling him what he preached was wrong and see how he responds.

    – Pasta

    ——–

    and you are an idiot

    – J
    ——–

A real man puts his name to his words just as I am doing here. You seem nothing more than a trouble maker to me. it is not your place to say rubbish like “you think so low of the Bible.”
You have no idea what I think of anything. If you have serious concerns then there are avenues to deal with them (and) not sending gutless anonymous emails to people. Grow up man.

    – J

    ——–

    Hello J,

You obviously know nothing about the bible nor do you take it seriously; if you cared, you would have read the email (where the author has used the bible to make his case) and prayerfully considered it, instead of insulting me for forwarding the email. As per your own words, you have not even read the email to make any judgement about the content or the author, but you get upset when I draw conclusions about you from your immature response?

Do you even know that there are books in the bible which we have no idea who is the author? Such as the book of Hebrews. Using your rationality, those books should be disregarded! Intelligent people look at the content of written material and draw conclusions about the author. The false reasoning that you’ve employed is called ‘Ad Hominem’ – attacking the person instead of the arguments.

You would not know if someone was introducing ‘Left Wing’ propaganda in the church neither would you care. Godly churches all over Australia are fighting back now in an effort to safeguard the church from being infiltrated by liberal ideologies; in fighting the people who are fighting the LGBT propaganda, you are fighting for LGBT in an effort to bring their agenda into the church!

All you had to say was remove your name from the email list and I would have been happy to do it.

If you have any guts and cared about the bible and the church as you allude to in your email, then go talk to Greg and try and stop him with your proper “avenues”; or did you talk to him and decide to follow Greg instead of following Christ? Few in the church have tried using proper “avenues”, only to get ignored by Greg.

The change in the writing style of your email indicates that someone wrote it out for you and you are telling me to “grow up.” You need to grow up, at least spiritually.

    – Pasta

    ——–

    Still talking rubbish aye?
    – J

    ——————————

As a wise man is Moonee Ponds Baptist once told me, “you can’t wake a person who is pretending to be asleep”- there was no point in continuing the conversation with ‘J’.

  4. Paul, please publish this comment as an blog post.

Is it right to bring secular bands into the church, just because they happen to play few songs with “Christian” Words in it?

“Iron and Clay”, the band that played in Moonee Ponds Baptist Church two weeks ago (thanks to Greg), are not primarily a “Christian Band” – if there is such a thing. Even by their own admission on their website, their main focus is on social issues – rather than spreading God’s Word.

    http://www.ironandclay.com.au/

“We are a ministry/motivational band that travels 10 months of the year impacting young lives all over Australia. Peforming at primary/secondary schools, churches and social events, we address issues such as bullying, drug and alcahol abuse, drink driving and self esteem through music and testimony.”

Is there room for a church to host such events? Possibly, but Sunday morning worship and sermon should never be replaced by a performance, however entertaining it may be.

Greg did really not take the permission of the church for allowing this event, he just ambushed us and pushed his agenda on everyone, as he usually does. Not many of us were aware of the program for the morning, in that, did we not know that the loud band would take up the whole morning service slot.

Greg admitted last week that Iron and Clay’s music was too loud for him and that’s why he was at the back of the church for most of the concert; one has to wonder why he would invite a band to church that he cannot bear to listen to – possibly an attempt at creating an impression that he was doing it more for the church than for himself; but many of us hated it too Greg!

The church did not respond to the band’s numerous attempt at making everyone ‘dance to their beat’; we are not like the Hillsong church, where music and performances take the main stage; we are a conservative and evangelical church and our main objective on a Sunday morning is to hear the Word of God.

If you actually listen to the lyrics of most of their songs, they are not biblically sound; they may be good to create awareness for the prevailing social issues but there are other times and places to promote such messages; replacing a Sunday service with such entertainment demonstrates that Greg is not a pastor who cares about the spiritual growth of the congregation.

  5. “I don’t read crap from gutless people who don’t sign things. You’re no friend of mine.”
    – J

The language and attitude, on so many levels is just disgusting!

I am predicting a very immature kid wrote this.

Sorry J but this is not how Christians interact with one another, more inline with a fake christian, supporting a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

You used a derogatory word like ”crap” to voice your opinion, yet berate a faithful brother/sister for exposing error upon error, as commanded by the Bible, and say nothing about Greg’s false teaching. Why is that, do you like false teaching? Or are you not mature enough to even discern what is false teaching. Its sad, but that is the only conclusion one can draw. The Bereans were commended for examining the scriptures daily to see if what Paul taught was correct, Acts 17:11, if the Apostle Paul was to be tested and examined, how much more the rest?

    “CRAP”

Do you not see your own hypocrisy, if you have not read it, then how can you say its ”crap”? But if you have, then how can you say, you don’t read ”crap”? Hypocrisy my friend, contradicting yourself, you are a disgrace to the church, i just hope no outsiders read this, its no wonder the church is dead.

    ‘GUTLESS”

You chose another nasty word like ”gutless” so i’m assuming you think you are not, yet here you are attacking a faithful believer through a computer screen, knowing full well they wish to remain anonymous. As per your logic, you must also be gutless.

Just wondering, what have you done that is so courageous, please share? Apart from been a big man over the internet have you bothered to go to Greg and correct him? Or are you the gutless one? Maybe you are part of the church dumbing down process, and haven’t a clue, if what Greg dishes out each week, is even Biblical, that would explain why you failed to address the topic, but only the writer, this is exactly what happens when the church is dumbed down, they follow like sheep. What business is it of yours if the writer wants to remain anonymous? How exactly does an anonymous author negate truth and facts? The very fact that anonymity exists strengthens the case that Greg is not approachable! If you don’t want the emails, ask to be removed, who’s forcing you? I for one am grateful someone cares, and has taken his christian duty seriously.

At the end of the day, you get the leader you deserve.

  6. I have good idea who J is that said he is not a full two bob. I was discussing Just this week in the church with a person about the issues and the response was “I don’t like to judge God knows the heart we are not to judge etc…” I tried to explain righteous judgement and importantly discernment but it only ended in a heated conversation. We see some of the pastors idols like Rick Warren /Kenneth Copland show support to the pope now that should say a lot about the pastor. All this can be looked up on youtube if people only had time to do some research for themselves before they class you as judgmental or legalistic.
